Inside the Collection: Why We Feature McNutt of Donegal Throws and Blankets

At Seddon and Davison, we’re passionate about quality, craftsmanship, and sustainability—and that’s exactly why co-founders Kara and Mark have handpicked a selection of McNutt of Donegal throws that reflects these values. The pieces in our collection feature earthy tones, rich heritage colours and a range of textures—from soft merino herringbone to traditional Donegal tweeds—all designed to bring comfort and character to your home.

A Family Tradition of Irish Craftsmanship and Sustainability

Established in 1953, McNutt has grown into one of Ireland’s leading woollen mills. The family-run business combines traditional craftsmanship with modern design, using only natural fibres to ensure their products are long-lasting and environmentally responsible. Their commitment to sustainability resonates with us at Seddon and Davison, and we’re proud to offer these eco-friendly, luxurious throws to our customers.

Plus, with their ‘ThrowBack’ programme, McNutt encourages you to repurpose or recycle old throws instead of throwing them away, making sustainability a core value.

Supporting Local Craftsmanship in Ireland and Ilkley

What makes these throws even more special is their connection to our local community. While the throws are woven in Donegal, we discovered that the some of the yarn is provided by a local business right here in Ilkley, supporting local businesses and keeping the process close to home. It’s all part of our commitment to sustainability and working with suppliers who share our values.

Bringing Nature into Your Home

McNutt’s team describes their mill's location in Ireland on the Wild Atlantic Way as a major source of inspiration. The rugged coastline, untamed heathers, and wild seas surrounding their North West coast mill influence the colours, textures, and designs in every throw.

McNutt throws aren’t just decorative—they’re versatile pieces that bring warmth and texture to any space. Whether draped over your favourite armchair or layered on your bed, they offer exceptional quality and value, making them a beautiful and practical addition to your home.

Explore the Wool and Weaves in Our McNutt Collection

Kara and Mark have picked a variety of textures and finishes for our McNutt throws—each one chosen for its feel, colour and character. You’ll spot soft herringbones, chunky tweeds and lightweight blends, all in the earthy tones and heritage colours we love. Most throws measure 200cm x 145cm unless otherwise stated.

Some styles are thick and weighty, great for layering up in cooler months. Others are light and airy—ideal for relaxed summer evenings. All are woven on traditional looms at the McNutt mill on Ireland’s rugged Atlantic coast.

Merino Lambswool Throws

These are the softest in the range. Woven from extra-fine merino lambswool, they’re light, warm and beautifully soft—perfect for cooler evenings when you want warmth without too much weight. Look out for the signature herringbone design in colours ranging from navy to rosebay pink.

Pure Wool Throws

With more texture and a slightly chunkier feel, these are ideal for layering on a bed or keeping close to the sofa. The colours are often drawn from the Donegal coastline, and the weave gives them more structure and presence in the room.

Linen and Wool Blends

Lighter in feel, these throws are perfect for warmer weather or adding a breathable extra layer. They bring a different texture to the mix—more relaxed, but still thoughtfully woven with the same attention to detail. Naturally moisture-wicking and softening with every wash, they’re ideal for summer living and alfresco dining.

Donegal Tweed & Heritage Weaves

You’ll find traditional Donegal-inspired textures and patterns in some of the heavier lambswool or pure wool throws—think oatmeal tones, subtle flecks and heritage-style structure that nod to the region’s weaving history.

Reversible Designs

Some throws in the collection are double-sided, offering two tones or subtle shifts in pattern. It’s an easy way to refresh a room with just a quick flip or fold
